The Day in 100 Words or Less It was a day for football fans to try and set aside their consciences and allow what happens on the field to distract them away from the happenings in Brazil. Otis Sistrunk Raiders Jersey . It was a day where the host nation were asked to open the tournament and show us what they were made of: A day that the history books will show as a win for Brazil but ultimately the bigger story was much more than that. Observations - Croatia deserved a chance to show us what they were made of. For 70 minutes they were rightfully level with the World Cup favourites. It could have been an acid test for Niko Kovacs side to see what they could accomplish. Unfortunately, they were robbed of that opportunity. - It was a very unfortunate moment. Many eyes were on this game that rarely glance at a soccer match and when referee Yuichi Nishimura pointed to the spot in the 70th minute the world asked: "Why?" The Japanese official adjudged that Dejan Lovren had fouled Fred but the truth was he placed his hand on his shoulders and the Fluminense man went down. - With the world watching it was hard not to feel sadness. In the opening act of the games greatest carnival, one mans massive error in judgment had turned the spectacle into a farce. - It then became Neymars day. For a 22-year-old making his World Cup debut in Brazil, wearing the famous number 10 shirt, he showed a remarkable amount of poise. He had already scored one, gliding into space provided by Oscar, before unleashing a shot passed Stipe Pletikosa and then, at 1-1, he had the nations hopes placed on his right foot. - The referee handed the ball to Neymar at 69:30 and he placed it on the spot at 69:38. He then waited and waited and waited some more before placing the ball into the net 50 seconds after he put it down on the ground. I am not sure what was going through Neymars mind during those 50 seconds but he showed no sign of pressure in one of the most intense moments in recent Brazilian football history. - Croatia, led by the intelligence of Luka Modric, didnt go down easily and the game remained remarkably open until the final stages when Oscar finished it off. - We may never see another game at this World Cup that was this stretched. Brazil worked the flanks the entire game and two of Croatias most dangerous attacks (one on which was their goal) came from crosses wide in the opening 10 minutes. - Remarkably, less than 18 per cent of Brazils attacks came through the middle. Man of the Day Nominees: Neymar – a brace from Mr. Box Office in the biggest game of his young life put his face in newspapers across the globe. Oscar – The Chelsea playmaker had a brilliant game and showed just why Luiz Felipe Scolari cared little for his poor form at Chelsea in the last few months of the Premier League season. Luka Modric – Brazils two central midfielders had a very difficult time against the Real Madrid man, who was very intelligent with his passing and feasted on space when countering. Ivan Perisic – the Croatian winger had a very good game and it will be interesting to see if other players, asked to play against Brazils left side attacker, can be influential because Hulk - used a lot on the left - showed little appetite to track back. Yuichi Nishimura – the referee made a monumental mistake. Some on social media jumped to an assumption of match-fixing. Everyone needs to be very careful when drawing a line between incompetence and intentional error. The winner... Oscar was sensational. Many expected him to play centrally but he occupied a wide right position, tracking back and winning all four tackles he attempted. Brazil clearly had a plan to attack down the right but it was the 22-year-olds exceptional play certainly helped emphasize that method. Oscar has the potential to be the best player at this World Cup. He is so versatile, he can be three players in one. He is capable of coming deep and helping out the two central midfielders, can move wide and pull defenders with him to open up space centrally (which is what happened on Neymars first goal) and he can advance and run beyond all, pulling opposing back lines deeper. Brazil may need to change their style against a top team later in the tournament, potentially bringing in a Ramires or Fernandinho for Hulk, for example, and Scolari was given food for thought on day one for this because of the brilliance of Oscar out wide. Dani Alves was the biggest beneficiary of Oscars positioning. The Barcelona right back was culpable on the opening goal, pressing higher than anyone on Pletikosa as Croatia started an attack, but as the game settled down so did the 30-year-old. Between them they created a dynamic duo with overlaps and easily led the game in total pass completions between team-mates. What Comes Next? Day 2 sees Mexico vs Cameroon (Noon et/9am pt), Spain vs Netherlands (3pm et/Noon pt) and Chile vs Australia (6pm et/3pm pt). Catch all the game live on the TSN radio networks. Burning Question for Tomorrow Will a young Dutch team be brave enough to play a back three and counter a potentially vulnerable Spanish team? All stats and diagrams were powered by Opta Latavius Murray Raiders Jersey . The team announced the defensive coordinator will not be offered a contract extension. Amari Cooper Raiders Jersey . -- Marty Havlat scored three goals for the first time in nearly nine years, and the San Jose Sharks prevented Colorado from clinching the Central Division title with a 5-1 victory over the Avalanche on Friday night. http://www.cheapraidersjerseyspro.com/Black-Derek-Carr-Raiders-Jersey/ . And theyre pointing to the NHLs biggest market: Toronto. With Gretzky paid out for what is believed to be $7 to 8 million, Gretzky may be eager to get back into the NHL and TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger reports that the Maple Leafs are very much interested in The Great Ones services.MILWAUKEE -- Michael Cuddyer prefers to play every day, so sitting in the dugout isnt his ideal way to spend the night at the ballpark. But with a bruised big toe still bothering him to the point where it would hinder his defence, Cuddyer was limited to pinch-hitting duties. In the ninth inning Friday night, he came through in that role. Cuddyer drove in the go-ahead run in the Colorado Rockies 4-3 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers despite an inside-the-park homer for Norichika Aoki. Even on what was supposed to be a night off, Cuddyer impressed his new team. "Its nice to get off to a good start, no matter where you are, who youre with, what team youre with," Cuddyer said. "But especially going to a new team, its good to get off to a good start. At the same time, weve got a long, long, long way to go." Cuddyers tiebreaking RBI single came off Brewers closer John Axford. "He is a professional," Rockies manager Jim Tracy said of Cuddyer. "I mean, if you look the word up in the dictionary, I promise you, his picture will be right next to the word." Aoki hit the home run for Milwaukee in the fourth, the first major league homer for the former Japanese baseball batting champion. Aoki added a double and scored a run in the sixth. "I wasnt expecting to get a home run there so I was just running as hard as I could," Aoki said, through an interpreter. "I am just very happy with the results." Todd Helton hit his second home run of the season and Troy Tulowitzki had a single and an RBI double for the Rockies. Ryan Braun went 0 for 3 but did reach base when he was hit by a pitch. Braun is 0 for 14 in the first four games of the Brewers current homestand. Rafael Betancourt pitched the ninth for his fourth save, leaving a runner on third base. Matt Belisle (1-0) earned the win. Pinch-hitter Jason Giambi hit a bloop single off Axford (0-1) to start the ninth, and was replaced by pinch-runner Eric Young -- who took second when Axford unleashed a wild throw to first on a pickoff attempt. Young advanced to third on a flyout, and Cuddyer came in as a pinch hitter. Cuddyer singled up the middle, giving the Rockies a 4-3 lead. Cuddyer said it takes a different mindset for a player to come in as a late-game pinch hitter. "Im not a big fan of it, but it is what it is," Cuddyer said. "Physically, it was tough to get out in the outfield and run around today." Rockies starter Jhouulys Chacin went seven innings, giving up three runs and four hits with a walk and six strikeouts. Jack Tatum Raiders Jersey. He also had an RBI single in the fourth. "Just luck," Chacin said with a laugh. Chacin now has put together two good outings in a row after struggling in his first start and making a mechanical adjustment. He retired his first 10 batters before Aoki hit a sharp liner in the fourth and the ball scooted past the outstretched glove of diving left fielder Carlos Gonzalez. "It was almost the catch of the night, too, and weve seen Gonzalez make some plays like that," Tracy said. The ball went to the wall, where there was a brief moment of indecision between Gonzalez and centre fielder Dexter Fowler about who should pick it up. Aoki continued to cruise around the basepaths and was able to score standing up. The Brewers signed Aoki in the off-season after being awarded negotiating rights with the Tokyo Yakult Swallows. He is a three-time Central League batting champion. Brewers starter Shaun Marcum went six innings, giving up three runs and eight hits. The Rockies took a 1-0 lead in the first when Gonzalez singled, stole a base and scored on a double by Tulowitzki. Marcum then loaded the bases in the fourth, intentionally walking Chris Nelson with two outs to bring up the pitcher. Chacin delivered an RBI single, scoring Tulowitzki, but Braun threw out Ramon Hernandez at the plate. Hernandez may have felt catcher Jonathan Lucroy missed his shoulder with the tag as he slid and argued vehemently with home plate umpire Larry Vanover. After Aokis homer cut the Rockies lead to 2-1, Helton belted a homer deep to right-centre field in the sixth for a 3-1 lead. The Rockies then put runners on second and third with one out, but Nelson hit a grounder and third baseman Aramis Ramirez threw home for the out -- the Brewers second putout at the plate. Milwaukee came back to tie the game in the sixth on an RBI single by Corey Hart that scored Aoki and an RBI single by Mat Gamel that scored Braun, who had been hit by a pitch. NOTES: Milwaukee placed LHP Chris Narveson on the 15-day disabled list with a tear in his rotator cuff. The injury still is being evaluated but may require surgery. ... Tulowitzki is batting .398 with 12 doubles, 7 home runs and 22 RBIs in his career against the Brewers. ... Rockies reliever Josh Roenicke briefly chatted with his uncle, Brewers manager Ron Roenicke, before Fridays game. Wholesale NFL Jerseys ' ' '
